advice on creating this ear

hi i have been trying to replicate this ear but have real serious trouble trying to get it right.
I found it difficult to make it as the ear gradually joins to the head(being part of the head) and also making it look correct. the tools i used are bevel, rotate, bandsaw tool to add more points so that i could drag to give its shape and smooth shift. I already have the basic head shape so i start off with one of the polygons(the bottom left poly from the right view port). somehow i can't get it right. could someone guide me through this?:confused: i have attached a picture of it. |

As promissed, here is the tutorial. It's a bit messy, so forgive me for that.
My english isn't that best, so i really hope you will understand it ( not made such kind of tutorial before ). you might tweak some points here and there. because the result isn't that good. but well i hope i gave you some help with this one! sorry moderators for the big image. |

err i'm having problems with the polygons that turn out to only have 3 polys, especaily after i deleted the surface and use the extender for the inner part of the ears....
hmmm and some of the surface seem to be on the other side, heres a pic to show you what i mean... |
If some polygons are on the other side, select them and press f to flip them.

here's an example...
basically somehow when i created it i had a few extra points. Managed to get rid of it. Down to the crucial part. After i have selected the points, how do i join it to the head? Which function do i Use? |
euhm...well...
that's strange! maybe you have used the extender tool twice when extruding the points? if yes you will get 2 polygons on the same coordinates wich can give those errors. Don't know exactly how to get rid of it. Only by selecting them manually and delete them. |
You could try merging points to get rid of the offending vertices, or Unify Polygons if there are polys that are in the same position.
However, it looks to me as though you've selected pairs of points and then extended them (so you end up with a whole bunch of quads that are only joined at their original origin - select pairs of points and weld to get around this. |
oh ya merging them would be a faster way. I did it the harder way by deleting them. ;)
my last question was how do i merge those points of the ear to the head? and thanks a million for guiding me through this. |
Hmm... that's the fiddly part. The only advice is extender, weld and lots and lots of patience....... :D

hmmm seems that my head doesn't have lots of points to weld them up together.... i'll try to work something out.

Couldn't you create the same number of point that are on the back of the ear, on the side if the head, then either select series of 4 point (2 on the ear & 2 on the head) and create a poly with them.
Altenatively, select points on the ear and their reference points on the head, and use the bridge tool. I followed this ear tute and found it really good. I had no problems at all. thx bullet ~~CM! |
