Hey guys this sounds like a great challenge! I can't believe more people haven't joined in. I think I am going to recreate Dirk from Dragon's Lair. I don't think he has been done in 3d, has he? I wish everyone the best of luck.

Good luck! The good thing about the challenge is that MtMickinley took away the 3d rule! So even if it was made in 3d you could still make your own version.

Yep best of luck with it - just remember the "should be your own version" rule rather than doing a direct copy of the original character. Looking forward to seeing what you make of old Dirk!:attn:

Haha, I used to love that game. Good luck, can't wait to see what your character will look like.

Here is a little update on my character. I haven't gotten to work on it as much as I would like to, but here is what I have so far for the head. Let me know what I need to tweak. Hopefully I will have quite a bit more done later.

Well i would tweak some parts. The cheekbone need more work. in the reference images you can see them very good. they are sticking out a little. Maybe you should do that in your 3d model too.

the mouth is to big i think. make it a bit smaller.

Delete the wrinkles under the eyes. They aren't the same as in the reference image. maybe delete those!?! if you want to have those kind of wrinkels because of your own changes on the model, i think they are good though.

the eyebrows aren't the same as the reference too. the eyebrows need to be overlapping the eye a bit. I don't see that in your model.

I hope i gave you some help.

Thanks bullet for your advice. I thought the same thing about the eyebrows and the cheeks after looking at my model after posting it. I put the wrinkles because I want to make him look a little bit older. I will make the changes you suggested though and see what you think. Thanks again.

here is an update after the alterations.

The overall shape of the head is looking a lot more Dirk-like now. Keep it up

Hey guys. I haven't really gotten to work on this as much as I would like, but I should have an update for you all this weekend.

Fallenswordsman 10-10-2005 06:50 AM

Heh, I thought the same about mine - the head should be the most time consuming part though, so hopefully once you've got that done and are happy, the rest should fall into place fairly easily.

here is what i have so far for the body. it is just roughed out right now, i will refine it as i go on. i want him to be out of shape. i am having trouble putting in the fingers, i tried doing a few knife cuts on the end of the hand but it didn't turn out right. i also tried doing a bandsaw, but it added to much extra geometry to everything else. does anyone know of an easier way or some way i am totally missing? thanks

Fallenswordsman 11-10-2005 06:51 AM

At this stage, I would point out that Philip's hand modelling tutorial on this very site is probably the best one I've seen for Lightwave, but there are less detailed tutes available.

Perhaps:

Sorry guys, but I think I am going to have to bow out of this one. I don't have the time to finish it. Good luck to the rest of you. I look forward to the finished products.
