chess set

This is going to be a texturing/lighting learning experience. I'm going to try and create a photorealistic chess set. this is what i have so far. let me know how it looks and give me some c&c, tips, etc...
thanks |
looking good, the white chess pices look a bit reflective, and meybe lower the diffuse a tad

Sake is right, the chess pieces and board itself do look a bit too reflective. For me, the pieces look a tad big compared to the board itself and the bishops seem very tall, almost indistinguishable in height to the King and Queen. Keep at it :)

lookin good ddrifmeyer84
It would be nice to give the chess bits some bump, maybe just round the bottom of them, as if there is some wear and tear from rubbing agaisnt the board. i think if u modelled a table and gave it a nice texture it would help the scene 2, i think there is a chess image in the simply gallery, u should check it out  |
here's another render. yeah, the reflection is way too high. i figured 15% would barely reflect anything. the bishops are the same height as the king and queen in the set that this is modelled after, but yeah, i see what you mean. i knew there was something wrong, but couldnt put my finger on it. how can i get a better wood surface? the one i have now is an image map. i would like to use procedural, but it always comes out like its way to big for the object. huge rings and stuff like that. crappy detail. any tuts available on that? also, still need to figure out how to model the knight. i really suck at organic shapes. or basically any shape that cant be beveled. any tips? i was thing about using 'pen' to do the outline and then bevel it. it may come out ok, but i doubt it. any tips welcome. im going to turn down reflectivity and make a few small adjustments and start another render. man i ramble on and on when im drunk...
