hi all,
just finished rendering my new model...
I took a little sidestep from the McLaren, it was supposed to be only for the weekend, but it turned out to be two weeks
I used all techniques from the mclaren tutorial, except for lighting and texturing ( not there yet :p )
comments and critics welcome !

PS : quiz question : which movie inspired me for this ?
( at least one member on the board should know... )

Nice I like the lighting.

admiralbcd 15-04-2006 11:32 AM

thanks, unfortunately, the lighting is also the bummer....

I used area lights placed in front of the TL's and pointlights for TL radiosity, but at 32 arealights and 64 pointlights, it kinda slows down my processor  took me over 3 hours to render a single frame......( I don't have fprime )

I was planning a walkthrough animation but 500 frames at 3hours/frame.....:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Nice image,
to maintain your lighting setup and perhaps lower rendertimes try and decrease the ray recursion limit in the render option dialog box, it shouldnt be any noticable difference in this image/animation ( i think ), area lights are killers so its not sure it makes any big difference but might be worth a try.

good luck

Matt

thanks for the tip, unfortunately, it didn't do much good :shakehead
it only took down about 3 minutes of total rendertime....

ah well, I'm down from 3hrs16 to 3hrs13 minutes :D

Nice render... it has a starship troopers look to it.

You might try baking your lighting into your surfaces.... if you can get away with it in your animation. That is as long as you don't have to change the lighting or animate anything that will cast shadows on the surfaces.

won't work either :(
The TL's should flicker on and some of them are supposed to be malfunctioning so they keep flickering.

looks like my pc is up for some sleepless nights...

bullet_evader 19-04-2006 09:18 AM

Hey that looks pretty good. Is it inspired by the first alien movie?

admiralbcd 19-04-2006 11:28 AM

KADANG !!!!
And the winner is : Bullet Evader !

Yes, it's based on the hallway leading to the dorm on the Nostromo, seen briefly in the first movie.

Man that is awesome....Great inspiration as I've been working on something simalar. Nice Work

admiralbcd 25-04-2006 07:54 AM

something similar ?!
as in .....???? you're making me curious :D

I got the inspiration last summer on the 'fear and loathing' contest. Someone was modeling a dark tunnel that sadly didn't get finished. And this year is ALIEN's 20th anniversary so....
