whats happenin behind merge points tool?

when we use merge points ('m') tool...some pts are eliminated...wat points r eliminated ...what is the criteria for elimination? ...what is the use of the tool?.....thank u

Points that share the same location get merged. You can define a criteria as to how far apart they have to be if you don't want to have to be precise.
