editing movies

Ok, so I am new to lightwave (haven't even bought it yet, but I will very soon) and I want to know if I get it if I would be able to make a normal movie with my friends and then use lightwave to add effects. Also if this is in the wrong section then move it to the proper section. Thanks in advance!!

I think you mean can I make a movie with my friends and perhaps put in a dinosaur chasing them down? Yes you can. it is called compositing by the industry. However, it can be achieved better with a compositing program like Adobe After Effects, or Combustion.
You can put your video in lightwave and make a scene, and compose it properly then render it out. That's pretty much it in a nutshell, actually it gets a bit sticky figuring out the technical aspects of it.

:p
