tutorials

Ok, well I got this set of tutorials for christmas http://www.desktopimages.com/LW7DVD.shtml and I was wondering 2 things. 1 do they use lightwave 7.5 in them all, and 2 are they worth the money that was spent on them.

I don't know about that set of tutes, but I did buy and complete the DesktopImages Character Modeling and Animation Series. Kind of expensive, but worth every penny. Most professional tute production, and content, I've ever seen.

I was accually going to buy those ones, but my dad didn't want me to because he thought it was for only character modeling and animation, and you can't use those same techniques for other modeling, but oh well, I guess I'll just use these.

Well, your dad is right, and wrong. Any modeling technique can be used for any modeling task (mostly) but some are better at doing different things.

The set you got looks like a very comprehensive overview of Lightwave. Even if you want to specialize in modeling or texturing or whatever down the line, being aware of how animation works will make you a better modeler. Knowing how light behaves will make you a better texturer, etc, etc.

The Desktop Images products are getting to be a bit dated but anything covered in those tutes will apply in the newer versions. Main difference being the GUI, and there might be a newer tool such as Multishift vs. Smooth Shift.

All in all you got a great set of tutes. The tutes here are also really great, if a bit more specialized, and possibly lacking in some areas. No one tute can teach it all.

Happy LW'ing!!!

Ya, well, I really don't know what I would want to do more of in lightwave (modeling, animation ect) and ya, they do seem a little bit outdated, but they should still work for what I need.
