Layered Render

Ok, so I heard (read) that to have better control over the way a render(static, animation) turns out, you can render it in different layers: diffusion, specularity, etc. and compose them afterwards in another program like AE or something.

Now, would anybody be so kind as to explain to me how I would go about doing this, please?

And yes, you can hug the newbie.

Go to the Image Processing window, Add Image Filter, then add "Buffer View". You can then choose which elements to render out. The image viewer then saves one image for each channel selected.

I just bought a book called " digital lighting and rendering" by Jeremy Burn. Here is a link Digital-Lighting-Rendering

I didn't had the time to work my way though it (that's the poblem with books), but it seems to be a very usefull book. There is a whole chapter about redering in passes and compositing.

Yeah, that was it...
I'm blind, blind I tell you! :headbang:

Anyway, thank you very much, both of you. I'm sure to check the book out.

Just as a note, if you need to render a whole movie, then ad Buffer Export, set the element you want to render from the dropdown list and set the Destination to either Render RGB if you only want one type of output (say geometry or depth map) or to the default if you want to export different types and don't want them to overwrite, just set different names...

Anyway, thanks again.

NoStr0m0,

I was wondering. Where you able to blend all the pases you rendered into a nice final image or animation.

I shure could need some tips on how to blend all the different passes. I'm cracking my head on this for a couple of days now, but it does not seem to work.

For example: how do I blend the specular pass into the diffuse shading and RAW RGB pass ? and what about the shadow pass ? :headbang:

Any help would be really welcome !
