Coolest CG's?

Just thought I'd post a fun little thread.

1a. What's the coolest CG movie you've seen this year?

1b. What's the coolest CG movie you've ever seen?

2a. What's the coolest CG game you've played this year?

2b. What's the coolest CG game you've ever played?

I'll post my answer after I give it some thought first, hehe

I'll bite:

1a) Eragon - not a CG movie but I liked the dragon

1b) The Incredibles - by far my favorite animated/CG movie ever. Cars would have to get an honorable mention though...

2a) Call to Duty 2 - great game with excellent animation/artwork. Haven't tried CTD 3 yet though...

2b) Knights of the Old Republic II - by far the best game I've ever played.

Ok, I've given it some thought.

1a. Spiderman III. (I'll be going to see Fantastic 4 this weekend.)
1b. Over the hedge. (I've always been curious about final fantasy but now since someone's seen it (s2-speedy) and liked it, I'll have to check it out.)

2a. NiBiRu (only played two games this year so far. NiBiRu's not really my type of game but the scenery in the game was really good. I don't play many games because when I sit down to play, I usually don't get back up til a couple of days later, hehe)
2b. Halo (I played it at a friends house last year and just couldn't get enough of it. And I really stunk at it.)

Edit: I saw erogon pretty recently and thought that was a really cool movie too.

Hmm, this is going to require some thought:

1A. I really can't remember seeing any this year so far. I don't tend to go to see films too often!

1B. I tend to be very fond of the animated shorts rather than the longer cinema-based blockbusters - one that springs to mind is "Lionel" which is a sort of CG based on the film Etre Et Avoir. For non-CG animated films, you can't beat the work of Bruno Bozzetto :)

2A. Jet Set Radio Future (I'm a bit old Skool like that since I can't afford the new hardware)

2B. Jet Set Radio - I just love the look and feel of the original. Its a nice, very free moving game.

Lets see...

1a) Monster House i suppose

1b) Les triplettes de Belleville, it's probably quite unknown because it was a european production and because the whole film looks very 2d but it's all 3d :)

2a) Command & Conquer 3: lots of great visual effects

2b) Thief, deadly shadows: creepiest atmosphere i've ever seen in a game, just great :p

Les Triplettes de Belleville was all CG? Didn't realise that! Really loved that film - very nice style to it.

No, Triplets was not all CG. It was a combination of 2D/3D, using 2d for the characters and such, and 3D mainly for the inanimate objects. Its been a couple years since I saw it, so I had to go look it up quickly to verify that it wasn't all 3D. Link for citation...

Triplets of BelleVille @ DarlingDimples

1a] POTC3
1b] I have no Idea.

2a] Warcraft 3 [...because WC2 is sprite based. and those are the only two games I've played at all this year.]
2b] FFIX [Anything by Square or Blizzard really, their fmv's are wicked.]

Whoops, you're right!

It's part 2d, part 3d.
We had a guest speaker at school this year from the studio Walking the dog. They were one of the studios involved. I believe he only showed us what they did in cg for the movie.
But indeed there's still quite some 2d in there.
Still very impressive cg though :)

I just saw Transformers and I thought it was AWESOME. Definitely the best CG movie I've seen this year. Most movies I see, I walk away saying "it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be". This one I said, "it was better than I thought it was going to be". I'm definitely going to go see it again.
