Okay, its not Lightwave, but I thought I'd stick it here anyway. I haven't really done much on it so far, and I think the detailing is going to prove a bit of a :headbang: but at least its something.

Not a bad start ... I'm just in the process of beginning to play with Modo myself. It's a little ... err ... different so far to LW. Liking the workflow though.

Thanks, guys - yeh I think the real devil will be in getting the details right.
I decided to go back to first principles and thought it best if I try and block out the larger details first and get the general shape and proportions right first rather than going straight to the fiddly bits. I'm hoping this will make me less likely to give up when I do come to one of the more fiddly bits too. Modo is certainly interesting, and I'm definitely not up to Lightwave speed on it yet - I still need to keep looking for the Lightwave equivalent of cetain tools quite a lot and I'm certainly still very slow on the old keyboard shortcuts, but I'm hopefully getting there. |
Hehe ... wait until you try to render using it. There's so many tweaks and controls in the materials and render engine it's difficult to know where to even begin (there's a lot of (pseudo-)scientific sounding controls in there - makes LW seem like childs' play.
I've got the 301 book and courseware on pre-order ... hopefully that'll make it a little easier.... |

Small update - I've done most of the blocking out although I do have some errors here and there.
I might dodge back into Lightwave to render this once I'm done - but that's some way away yet. @Jocco - nah, I'm not leaving Lightwave - I'm still a lot faster with LW than I am with Modo and it is still my main app. I am giving Modo a try though. There are some very nice features to it and UV is definitely a lot easier; but there are still major parts of Modo missing like animation. |
That is looking pretty sweet so far. I'd be tempted to not add any detail to the mesh and instead use the paint/sculpt tools to detail it.
Damned if I can find it now, but I did stumble across a fully detailed Orc head. The base mesh was simply a sphere - everything else had been created with displacement maps - amazing to watch. |

Hmm - don't think I know enough about displacement maps and I think this may be a good time to learn - lack of discipline in building the base mesh has meant that I've created more problems for myself than I should be tackling :headbang:

Having another crack at the more frilly windows - I'm still not happy with these though and I may have yet another crack at them. I'm just unsure of the methodology I should use to get the result I want :confused:

Improved upon the window builds and now stuck most of them into position.

Hi Mark - the windows have been a right devil, usually I create the inside shape first, then the outside shape then try and model the bits in between using the bridge tool. Anyway, after several more hours of :headbang:, I've gotten this
