settings of lightwave?
 

Hi all, I apologize first if I have made the post in the wrong thread.

I have just view the video tutorials on the basic modeling but it seems that some of the controls just do not act the same.

I am trying to make out a character head but for the eye's part whenever I click on the 'Ball' it appears as a 2d not a 3d object.

Anyway the lightwave program I have is the latest version, so can anyone tell me what settings should I modify?

You must drag the shape out in two dimensions. So, if you drag out the 2d "circle" using the ball tool from the top viewport, you must add the 3rd dimension by dragging in one of the side or front views.

Ok, I will tried it out. Another issue I have encountered is that as I pressed on the shortcut key 'q' in the modeler which pops out a 'Change surface' window.

For this window, I am able to write something in the Name textbox, but for the rest of the function are highlighted in light gray (unable to make you do/write anything in it) even though I have checked the 'Set initial color' (Make Default is checked too) I am not able to change the color, diffuse and specular.

So how do I make these 3 to be in function?

Your questions are very basic. You spent hundreds of dollars on Lightwave, why not go purchase a beginner's book? Inside Lightwave 9 and Essential Lightwave 9 are both very good (I prefer Essential Lightwave 9), and the videos at Dan Ablan's site are great for beginners (3dgarage.com). While the videos here are EXCELLENT, most are not for someone who's just starting (ie They are mostly intermediate skill level). I suggest you invest in some more basic resources, then come back here to continue your education.

You might as well go to the Newtek - Lightwave site. They have tons of tutorials not only explaining the tools but videos that teach you some techniques also. You can also download their MANUAL, I would recommend reading at last one section a day and come back to this site and work through their tutorials both free and the full blown tutorials and go back and read the LW manual again; after awhile, it really will begin to make sense. It is a very powerful application that will blow you away with what you can do with it, IF, you take the the time to learn the toolset. I hope this helped you and I can't wait to see your work!
