sp_move!

Hi again.

First thanks to all on these forums for answering my very newbie questions - much appreciated.

Special thanks to Cody Burke - really great tutorials - you helped me loose my Lightwave virginity! :-)

The question I have is on the video tutorial by David Mitchell. He mentions a plugin called sp_move.

I found this here:

http://www.pictrix.jp/lw/Sp_Move/

Im using Lightwave 9.6 and put this in a directory called '3rdparty' which I created within the plugins directory.

I tried adding plugin from the Utils menu, but I get a message saying:

"Cannot loads external plugin file <directory>"

then

"0 plugins found in 1 file"

I can't find the plugin under Utilities - Plugins - Additional either.

Does anyone know how I can get this working so I can follow the rest of the tutorial?

Thanks

ditto again for Nitisara remove points later on.

Is this because these are old pugins?

If so, how do I get new versions compatible with LW 9.6?

SP_Move is a 32 Bit plug in. If you are using Lightwave 9.6 you have to use the 32 Bit version not the 64 Bit Version. This could be on of the problems. His plugins are very good and usually stable. Good Luck.

thanks for the replies on this, but I still can't get pictrix plugins to work.

I've tried downloading from the site, and SP_move and SP_polygon from the DVD with the book "Essential Lightwave v9"

Each time I try to add these plugins I get the same message:

"Cannot load external plugin file" then "0 plugins found in 1 file"

Please could someone tell me what I need to do to get these to work?

Im using Lightwave 9.6 on a MAC running 10.6.5

Everyone seems to use these plugins, but how do they manage to get them loaded?!

Many thanks
Peepo

Thanks for the reply Junior - do you have the link? Im pretty sure I got the 32 bit version

I used the link at the bottom of this page:

http://www.pictrix.jp/lw/Sp_Move/

But this plugin does not load into LW 9.6 for me :-(

The link is correct. It is either a UB plugin or CFM. I will have to try when I get to work in the morning to see what the problem is. Give me about a day. If it doesn't work e-mail him and see if he can compile a version for you.

What are you trying to accomplish when snapping these points together? There is a shortcut in Layout to get objects to snap together so they can be flush. If you move an object in Layout and then hold Alt you can snap objects together.

For points in Modeler, I usually weld them together to get them on line and then unweld the points to make them separate from each other. Let me know if I can help with anything. Thanks.
Junior

Edit** Just looking at it it maybe because the plugin is for 7.5. I will let you know tomorrow.

thanks a lot junior - would be great to see your experiences.

I ended up using Snap Drag as I am working in Modeller on a house floor plan. I used a few flat boxes to get points in the room corners then killed the polys, deleted unwanted points and formed a new room poly from the remaining points.

It seems like quite a long winded way to get a point to snap to another. Im sure there is an easier way.

Someone just sent me the link for the $30 Sp_move which is for Mac UB -

Just also had a very quick and helpful reply from Pictrix

32 UB versions are available from the following links:

http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74213

I've just tried these and they load into LW 9.6 no probs!

Thanks to all for their help - much appreciated

It's awesome to see how helpful this community is, especially with so many great tutorials available! Cody Burke and David Mitchell have clearly put a lot of effort into helping newcomers master Lightwave. The plugin David mentioned, sp_move, seems to have piqued a lot of curiosity, and it’s great for exploring new techniques. By the way, learning Lightwave reminds me of a 4k weeks mindset—taking the time to master new skills in the limited weeks we have can be so rewarding!
