My Favorite Toy Challenge - SMFloris

This is my first challenge on this site. I'm going to do my favorite childhood toy ... a beyblade! I already started working on it, and finished modelling it based on the model i have.

Of course, a beyblade isn't a beyblade unless it battles. For those who don't know, beyblade is a game where spinning tops battle, it's very entertaining; Also, i have fond memories of the anime i used to watch as a kid.

Good luck to everyone and "Let it Rip" !

I accidentally put an earlier screenshot of my model, here is the final one which matches the toy i have.

Also, i couldn't resist not to animate this, so i made a little cell-shaded test spin (kinda looks like the ones in the anime ^^ )

Moving on to the final render !

Model looks good. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for a final image.

Being true to the style of the anime that made this toy so popular worldwide, i decided the final render should be a fierce battle between two beyblades.

Thoughts ?

Really nice render !
It's funny, because I also thought about making a beyblade for the challenge, but in the end I changed my mind...but again : good work!

This is how a real beyblade battle is carried out ... in the imagination of a 6 year old. Or at least that is how i pictured them when i was younger (about 10 years ago !).

To get the "epic clash" effect: I used 2 halves of a sphere, then deformed and textured them using weight maps,morphs,the node editor and a lot of gradients and procedurals;

I used an effector to appear as if the fire is "digging" into the more blueish watery energy.
For the effect from the background i used a simple point light with lens flare.

EDIT: i have unplugged the luminosity so that you can see the deformations, otherwise it would have just been a white surface in open gl.

That effect looks pretty sweet [and that shader tree is equally impressive]. Could I recommend a higher angle shot tho, so we can see more of the top? That's where most of the shape/interesting modeling is, don't wanna miss out on that.
