LW 1o and quicktimes

Hi, today I went to freelance at a studio that has LW10 and the edit I was working on was in need of some 3D elements.

When I went to save my animation, I usually save stills anyways, but this was so short and quick, that I went to render an animation (.mov) when to my surprise I couldn't access the quicktime options. so I wasn't sure if I was rendering with an alpha or not, or what codec, etc...

Is there a reason for this? can someone guide me as to what to do to get this to work, for future reference anyways, my work at this place is done.

Thanks.

I tried to look up the Quicktime options in the Render Globals -> Outputs and it wasn't there for me either. I checked this out on a PC I have running Lightwave 11.0.

Now the fun part, I went over to My Macbook Pro running Lightwave 11.0 and there it was quicktime .mov options.

I don't know if I am doing something wrong either but .mov is not showing up on my PC but my Mac it is there. PC you may have to use .avi and Mac use .mov.

Well I was on a Mac as well ... so I'm not sure what the difference would be. This is really weird.

Usually it is located under Render Globals -> Ouput -> and the Click the Save Animation Box. Under type, select .mov and then select Animation File. It should bring you to where you want to "Save the File". From there just type in the name. Select Save and then Lightwave should open up for you again. You should then be able to select the options.

I will check it at work tomorrow and try get a screen shot of the pull down menu. I know on my PC I never get Quicktime options.

Here is a screen shot of LW on a Mac. There should be .mov options in the Render Globals -> Output Tab -> Type pull down menu. Good luck!

Due to licensing issues, the .mov format is no longer available on Windows versions, still good on Mac versions. If you still want Quicktime, you will need to use Quicktime Pro and bring in an image sequence.

I found out that on the mac side, you can get quicktime if you right click on top of the LW icon, go to info, and run it in 32bit mode, instead of 64bit, it was explained to me on another forum (and sorry for not updating earlier) that quicktime is a 32bit app.

On the PC I'm not really sure how it all works, but I've seem to remember at a studio I freelanced at they had a series of older PCs that were setup for rendering only, and we had no issues sending file over and getting quicktime .mov back. Then again, I was involved technically in that part of the pipeline, and the IT guy that managed it was a total douche, so he never did explain how it all worked.
