Bowling Ball
Hi all. I'm new to lightwave and i've been trying to create a bowling ball with very little success. Is there a tutorial or something that can help me out? Thanks.

can't get the three holes right? Create a tesselated sphere with as many subdivisions so that each hexagon of 6 polys is about the size of one hole. Select 3 of these hexagons and smoothshift them in. Turn on SubPatch mode by hitting the Tab key.

Thank you Philip. Will try that.

Philip, Thank you very much. it worked perfectly.
To everyone, I do have one other question in regards to the ball. I have been trying to make it look like colored glass but am having problems with the transparency/translucency in basic. I'm not sure if that is the right window or if I need to go into the other tabs in surface editor to achieve the look i am looking for. Thanks. |
For colored glass you shouldent have to mess with the Translucency.
Try these two links for some good realistic glass settings. http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/9315/lw/tip4.htm http://www.liquid-arts.de/techniques.htm |
Thanks Johnny9ball.

Yes of course :D
One thing to remember about glass is, that it is realistic with good settings but you also need an environment around it to reflect and refract. An good environment around it will help a great deal in its realism. Try modeling some simple items to place behind or around the glass object. HDIR maps make good refraction and reflection environments. Also a Very slight bump map procedural will help a bunch. |
