Exporting models in Lightwave?
My associate is a 3d studio Max user and I am practising with Lightwave on the mac. In the past when I was using Strata we have transferred models to each other via DXF format. I need to able to do this using Lightwave. So my question is - Is it possible to export to DXF format using Lightwave, or some other generic format that can be used with Max?

Wayne, if you're using LV7.5 you should have the options to export to 3DS, DXF, EPS or OBJ (Maya?) file formats. Look under the Modeller File>Export menu. There may be other object export filters hidden under the Construct>Additional menu too.
Not sure how well all these exporters work, and what is (or is not) preserved however, so you'll need to have a play. |

Thanks Mark, you've been helpful

Look in the manual to see what is preserved for each format. I can't remember the exact page or I would post it here. OBJ format exports out group info, surfaces (materials), and UV maps. I'm not sure about DXF, but it is pretty close to that. I think you will find specifics in one of the appendices.
