Karate Kid

Hey Guys. Here is a character I'm working on for a job for a Karate school. There are a few tweeks I need to make, but I would like to get some crits and comments on it. Thanks.

Is he in subpatch mode? He just doesn't seem smooth at the moment - the hair looks okay, but the skin and costume just look a bit polygonny at the mo. Presumably he's going to be posed too eventually - hopefully at that stage you'll be able to add details like folds in the cloth at that point. He's cute enough tho.

Yes, he is subpatched, but I left it somewhat low so that it would render quicker. I just wanted to get a test render. I still need to add anti-aliasing as well. And yes he will be posed, animated. I haven't done any of the weightmaps or anything yet, but that is the next project if no one gives me any glaring problems with the model.

Hello!

The model looks OK but in my opinion Face surface doesn't have Smoothed turn on in 'Ctrl + F3' Editor :D

Barking - I think the face model as a whole could do with a smidge of work - I know its a cartoony face- I don't have a problem with that, but the dip under the nose seems a little misplaced and you might want to try adding eyebrows - they don't even have to be attached to the face, but they might improve in adding emotion to him. You might want to go for a slightly more complex ear as well if you can manage it. These are just opinions, mind - you don't have to take them on board if you think my ideas are terrible
BTW - I like your avatar!

I have been away from this for a while. I still have to add the eye brows. But I think everything is starting to take shape.

hehe he looks great, very cute little guy :)

Nice to see you're still working on this one - he is taking shape now. Couple of suggestions, if I may?
First off, I think he might look better if his eyes were glossy - I know you've applied a texture to give a faux-anime style glossiness to them, but I think a properly glossy eye on top of the effect you've already got might help. The second thing is the blending of the jacket and the trousers since they are both black its difficult to distinguish one from the other - I don't know the best way to sort this out - maybe try a different colour, or give the jacket a hem at the base like you have on the sleeves and collar?
I do like to see your characters though, Barking - good work!

Thanks for the comments Digi and Fallen. To address your comments Fallen, I like the idea with the eyes. With the suit, there is a specific style that the client wants, and having a hem at the bottom of the shirt is not the look they want. Anyone have suggestions on what else I could do about that?
