A few basic questions...
 

Hi, I'm new to lightwave and would really appreciate a couple of tips...

1) Point Positioning:
When I make a point, I can't seem to be able to position it easily... Like, I know in my head the exact X,Y,Z coordinates that I want it to be in but when I press "N" I'm only able to change the amount of offset I'm going to apply to the position rather than what I want which is just to type in the coords for the new position.

2) Smooth Curves to Straight lines:

. . .

OK, When I'm connecting up points I've created in preparation of lathing them, is there any way I can have a "make open curve" type scenario where there's a gap along the axis I want to lathe along but to also have a couple of "not curved" right angles along the way. Sorry bout the useless wording, hope someone can desipher it and help me?

If you want and exact position of a point, select it and press 'i', there you can enter values for X, Y and Z..

about the 2nd question Im not really sure exactly what you meant, but I'll read it again and think some more about it hehe

Wow, I hadn't bumped into that "point info" box before. I won't be forgetting about that one in a hurry!

I think I'm pretty much sorted for now because I've just sussed out that you can even select a mere 2 points before pressing "P". So yeah, don't worry too much about question2. *blush*

you can also select multiple points, hit "i" and there will be numbers displayed in the 3D view just next to your vertices, so you can easily keep track of which point you are editing.

but LightWave wasn't LightWave if there was only one way to do things: when using the point tool to create points, you can hit n to bring up the numeric panel (or just keep it open at all times...) and enter the exact coordinates for your point. Ricghtclick in the viewport to create the next point and so on...
