certainly the approach is interesting. In most games everything is rendered in real time (if i'm not mistaken

) and that's why every game lacks detail in the environment cause the computer wouldn't be able to keep up.
Inhere everything is rendered and then projected...making the images close to perfect and you don't need a heavy computer.
Downside is the interactivity afcourse :/
But if you want perfect images this (old) approach is still the way to go i think
