I guess the problem is twofold. If parts of the image are getting too burned out, then you need to darken the HDR image somewhat - think of what happens when you look at a real car in bright sunlight - you get that very noticable bloom effect where the sunlight bounces directly off the car surface that seems to blow everything around it out of sight too. What you're seeing in your image is the same kind of effect.
As for the problem with the wierd reflections, then that could potentially be down to warping of the image that you've used. You need to ensure that the image is a properly created, seamless spherical map in order to use it correctly as a reflection map, otherwise you'll get seams and warping. By rotating the image slightly, you may be able to reduce these somewhat though.
