Default Lighting

Hi everybody!

Since the challenge for this month is Fear and the other one, I mean Loathing and the stress is on mood and lighting, I was just wondering why nobody uses more reflections in their scenes. Reflections may add to the mistery and, why not, a twist to the story.
Or you could use shadows in a more productive way than just to create the illusion that it's actually real.

What am I talking about?

Well, remember a movie, usually horror or thriller, where somebody is in the bathroom, over the sink, washing his/her face. But when they raise their head and look in the mirror...damn... they die. Actually they get very scared because they can't see their reflection in the mirror, but something much worse: like a monster, or a future version of them, complete with blood splatter, decay etc.
Or, remember the ball scene in Van Helsing? In that great ball room, with all those people. When the leading actress was dancing with Dracula and she looks in the mirror and all that she sees is her reflection, all the other people being vampires and all...

As for shadow...the examples are many...but the one that pops into my mind right now is in the video Nightwish - Nemo, when the girl's shadow is a cross. It's cool and it makes the watcher think a bit about what it means.

Here's an old wallpaper I did in Bryce a while ago. Just look carefully and you should see a lot more that at first glance.
If not, I'll post an explanation too, but I would be very glad if someone could grasp the entire idea.
Anyway... here it is. It's calles "Flight of Osiris"

P.S. C&C are more than welcomed, since this will be the first piece of work I post here, besides my avatar
It's just to make my point, so if you don't like it...say why and how can it be improved, since I plan to redo it in Lightwave, sooner or later.

And yeah, I know the colors are all off by quite a bit :shakehead
