I've been thinking about this alot today, and i'm getting a little torn between using my native model or one of my other characters. Seeing as i'm getting started early [for me!] on this comp, I might do a couple of characters and choose the one that works best.
I have a little purple alien
who has become a bit of a trademark for me amongst the students and teachers where I work. I developed him a few years back for my major project that comprised the last part of a course I was doing. He tends to get shot, flattened, imploded, exploded, electrocuted, drowned and generally punished on a regular basis.
The second character is a beer-swilling super hero, based on a guy I used to work with [the resemblance is uncanny!].
I'll probably go with the alien and the native, as the geometry is less complex. I'm also considering building lower-res versions for this comp - it fits the theme better. Decisions, decisions!!!
