Hi BlakesDesk,
I am going to assume you are new to 3D and Light Wave.
Normally what you do is after creating a model and any other 3D asset that is used in a "scene" it is then opened in "Layout" that is the second part of LW. It is there that is considered the stage. You set and position your objects and camera and lighting to suit. Most people will surface their objects here while they are adjusting their lighting. you position the camera which will render the scene as it is seen through the camera.
When you surface your object, you may need to go back into "Modeler" to create surfaces that may be UV-mapped to the surface. In the surface editor you can fine tune your surfaces to get the look you want.
That's the short end of the whole process, I hope it will help you. There are many tutorials here on this site and also many other sites that can get you up to speed in the numerous steps to a good finished scen or animation.
