Thanks for the replies!
I've cleaned up and tamed the base mesh and added the hands, feet and ear/fin thingys. Next will be some gills and mouth detail. http://tenthchoir.com/May_June_Challenge012.jpg |

Tweaked the proportions a bit. I'll make the "feet" much more fin like. Right now they're just copies of the hands which of course will be webbed.

Not much longer 'til its TEXTURE TIME!
The mesh needs some TLC still, but I don't think I'll be changing the shape much at all. http://tenthchoir.com/May_June_Challenge016.jpg |

Heres a test render to get a good look and see if anything really bothers me about the model. The ear/fins bother me ... as do the feet/fins to a lesser degree. Hmmm ...

Looks good! No bellybutton? lol personally I think he would look better with a slimmer torso, as shown in the concept below. ya ears do look a little off but textures are what I believe will make or break this entry. Good Luck dude! I will be watching this thread closely!:attn:

Thank you for the input!
I have struggled with the belly. You can make arguments either way about wether or not he should have a pooch. I did it mainly to give a more playful look to the character and to help balance out the big fat head, but sometimes it just looks out of place. I think I'm gonna keep it for now. I really gotta finalize the mesh and start laying out the UVs! Texture was what I wanted to concentrate on most for this project. I want to create displacement as well to cut in some interesting seahorse style patterns. |

G'day swankymonkey! Great concepts - can't wait to see this lil' fella swingin' thru the seaweed!
I think it is 2 for the patch division R4s1n (1 gives you the same mesh you started with!) Cheers! priimate. |

Heres one more test render. I decided to mess around with compositing some translucency in Photoshop to get a little subsurface scatter effect. The ear/fins were redesigned in PS as well. I realized that persuing a bit of a seaweed look feels like the right way to go.
Let me know what you think before I start laying out the UVs! http://tenthchoir.com/May_June_Challenge019.jpg |

Thank you Mike and Tiago2!
I decided to make a few core changes to the model. I changed the head stalks look more like a court jester's hat by fattening them up and reducing them from 5 to 3. I will add some more detail to the tentacles ... probably little edge ridges. I'm also considering losing the end ball thingys all together ... but I gotta decide soon so I can move on to the next stage! If I give myself enough time I may also model a baby seamonkey and the texture them both at the same time ... WOO HOO! http://tenthchoir.com/May_June_Challenge020.jpg |
