Guys - thanks for the responses. Still very early days yet.

@Mark - thanks for the link. I may have a lead on a skeleton clock though. Apparently there is an antique clock exhibition going on in Kent where they have this baby:

http://www.qualityantiqueclocks.com/page/31227/pic4.htm

Might pop down there and see if I can get a few shots of it if they'll let me.

Anyway, back to the pocket watch. Haven't really done much so far, just building the main body and now its down to starting to detail things out. I'm not going to use Lightwave's gear tool because it doesn't really have the range of gears and cogs that I'm needing nor does it seem to work too well without crashing modeller, so I'm going to have to build on my own.

Not much to show yet, but I'll probably start doing renders soon (yes at this early stage) just to know if what I'm doing is right.

Okay, as I was saying - renders will start early as I really don't know what to do in terms of setting up scenes, HDRI, and all that stuff. At least then I'll know how much time I need to do working on things and I didn't want any nasty surprises to appear when I start rendering.

Anyway, still early days. Just used the scene from Lightwave's classic content and bunged my watch in there to see how it looked. All surfaces are temporary at this point.

Slow and steady (figuring out how to make cogs and springs). Not much done so far just drawing outlines really.

Sometimes you can get cheap pocket watches at markets and second hand shops. Dismantle it and there you have all the reference you need. Just a thought.

If not try this:http://www.abbeyclock.com/photos/watchesr.html

Absolutely superb refs there, Odeone - I never found anything like that myself and was struggling to see the various levels of cogs and bits piled on top of each other. Big thanks for that

Quick update on the internals - these are the bits that hold all the cogs together and probably one of the more difficult parts.
