hmm - think you're right there - I need to add points to the ears anyway - make them more faun-like

looks like the horn bases need to be stretch sideways to be more circular, as the boxy shape now is causing issues.

The idea I've got at the moment is to give her a spear - I want to try and turn her into a sort of amazon woman with some added bangles and jewellery but I'll have to see what I can do in the time we've got. If I'm going to turn her into an Amazon, it'll require some level of rigging and I've never done that before!

Thanks for the note on the horns as well - I only did these with a bit of smooth shifting so it was a bit rough and ready at the time - I just wanted to get stuck in to making her a little more goat like, but I'll fix it for the next update.

Hmm - had another look over at the Mayan's and I think I've still got my work cut out for me. Well I know what I'm going to be doing this weekend. The idea is to have the model complete by the end of the weekend so I can spend the rest of the time learning how to rig, texture, do hair and render. LAWKS!

well - spent most of yesterday creating the singularly most deformed hands that I've ever seen! How can so many polygons look so blatently unlike hands! Anyway, I decided to swallow my pride and go find myself a halfway decent hand tutorial since I've never actually done hands before. Lo and behold, there's one over at SimplyMaya for free! Dagnabbit!

If I remember corretly, there was a pretty good hand tutorial in 3D World magazine around 12 months ago too by Bill Flemming.

Cheers, Mark - I've actually gone through about three different iterations of the hand now just trying to make it look right. I remember the Bill Fleming one although that means digging around a tonne of magazines. I have found a few half decent other ones as well!

Okay a bit of an update - my schedule was to try and at least complete the model this weekend so I'll have next weekend to texture her and stick some hair on her. But I have a LOT to learn before the end of the competition.
Areas I still need to fix:
1. Horns are still too boxy- I did a little bit of fixing but it hasn't been enough
2. Ears need to be made more pointy (might not bother with this)
3. Wrists looking a bit lame at the moment
4. Move ears up slightly

Any other crits and comments most welcome. Remember that the legs will be furry so I'm not too bothered about the model work down below the waist but I was very unsure about how to form the legs properly with that double knee thing she has going on.

Very cool.

I think the hands are a bit too small.
I like the hooves. The legs seem a bit bumpy right now, but that might be hidden by fur if you're foing for the classical satyr look.
The breasts might be hanging a little low, unless that's what you're going for. They seem like they're old lady breasts, if you get my meaning.

Very good job!

Thanks for the pointers, Mike. I ended up box modelling the musculature of the legs as they were getting really too complex for my poor old brain to manage especially with having to construct two sets of knees - but they will hopefully be hidden by fur if I manage to figure out sasquatch.

Looking at it, I think you're right about the breasts as well - I did want to give them a bit of gravity since that's what most people complain about with CG breasts but maybe I overdid it a little!

The hooves I sort of winged it a little not being able to find any decent reference for goat hooves, I ended up relying on looking at someone else's fantasy art for these.

Cool dude,,, great work. As for the leg joint,, even if you are thinking of adding fur,,, the knee joint is not like that,,, at the back part there should be a small stump of sorts and sides need a little more work... Hmm i am working on an animal that has that kind of a leg joint, for a project, so the fur will not do much good as the knee and below should have lesser smaller hairs that have more density. Ok think i talk too much..

Good Luck, Cheers

the body looks great. u probably need to fix the hooves and ankles a bit. Unless ur coverin them with fur, it wont really matter
