Questions about Splines
When I try and make spline patches I seem to get an error message. That says " Curves do not cross correctly. " The only time I can get the patches to work is if I weld points or merge. Am I suppose to do this? or am I doing something wrong? I've been watching the Mclaren tutorial. And nothing is said about welding or merging points atleast not in the first 2 parts. So I'm lost here..LOL Help!

Yes, the corners of your patches have to be shared points, so you'll need to weld.

Nope. I think he mentions it in one of the later parts. It's just one of those things that it's easy to overlook when you're pretty familiar with the toolset.
That's why its always a good idea when not actually working on a particular project to actually break out some of the lesser used tools, the manual and some primitives and see if you can figure out how they work, and more importantly, how to get the most out of them in your particular workflow. |

Oh I agree Mark.. Like I said I got it to work when I welded the points.. but I wasn't sure if it was the right way or not. Just wanted to make sure.
Chrispo: I downloaded all 13 parts.. the first 2 parts are just on setting up the splines of the car. Part 3 gets into Patching them. And I watched part 1 and 2 about 6 times over to see if he talked about welding the points. And nothing was said.. If someone else knows for sure he talkes about it.. Please tell me what time frame he talks about it. So I can check it out.. Part 3 he goes right into selecting the first 4 splines of the corner panel fender. and patches them. No talk about welding though. So I was lost at that point. That's why I thought I was doing something wrong. |

Sry
But i disagree.. I think Phillip expains everything.. He tells u when the spline needs welding or merging.. Only thing i can think of ur spines were created wrong or ur choose the wrong splines or 1 to many. i did that a few times Ive never done splines before the only place ive got stuck so far was the blumming window took me ages to get it right..but i had loads of fun doing it..
