Sychronizing in Layout
What exactly does this do? When I click it nothing happens. It sounds like it would do what Im trying to do
What I would like to happen is to take my object from modeler and put it into layout... but only the layers I have visable in modeler. |

First choose "Send object to layout" this will load your object's visiable layers into layout. Then if you make any changes to your object in modeler select Sychronize and in layout the changes to your object will be updated.

Sychronizing in Layout
Manually starting layout before sending your object from modeller will allow the 2 programs to sychronize if your experiencing problems with lightwave starting up when trying to send an object to layout.
I have this problem but if i follow what i have written above i only have to do it once each time my pc is restarted. *Tip: dont forget to save your object in modeller if you make changes to the textures in layout. That way they will always be there next time you load your object into a different scene. OzWOlf |

Neither seems to work. It just sends all my layers to layout.
Could this be an effect of a corrupt file? |

was for me..
you go into your documents and settings folder and will see the hub and lw files used to track different things (like interface settings) make sure you have everything backed up. deleting these files can solve your problem, but be warned, lw will be in its boxed state on next start up, i dont even think it remembers plugins. ACTUALY: DONT DELETE THEM UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE AGREES THAT ITS YOUR LAST OPTION. i dont wanna be held responsible, but ill leve this up.

Yes, sending the object to layout (or synchronising) will send the entire object (ie: all layers within that current object).
You'll need to either: (a) delete the object layers you don't need in layout or (b) go into the layer browser in modeller, and set the visible flag (the last column - the one with the header that looks like an eye) to off (just click in it and the little dot should disappear) - this will stop the layer being loaded into layout. |

Modeler>Windows>Layer Browser Open/Close
or hotkey 'Ctrl+F5' ....If you have ever watched any of Philips tutes he has different windows open on the right side. They make your life easier than it already is
