are you looking to enter games, film (live action effects), film (animated feature), commercials, etc?
Whichever you're looking to get into, obviously, you'd want to make sure the work you put into your portfolio reflects this. |

'On the job training' ....I wouldn't count on it too much.
It's a world with a lot of competition, and theres some great animators out there ( and inhere :p ) To get a job, you have to impress with your showreel. which means first of all you have to model, texture and animate as if there is no tomorrow and be very critical to yourself. for commercial work, I would make some fake commercial, showing especially some 'lifelike' work and good lighting, cause that's the hardest, and most used in commercials. The chessboard that's being talked about on this forum is a good example....put a bottle of whiskey next to it and it could go straight in a commercial. For film, I'd concentrate more on some really good character animation, that's the most wanted. model texture and animate your character and do some cool story with it, use some effects. It always helps to do something unexpectedly extremely funny with it....( kill that godfather look on the guys face, to break the ice ) also, be original ! If you do something with let's say a car, don't just model a car, but be creative with it. Why not do some extreme customcar, for example, just to showoff your creativity. I'm gonna do the Mc Claren tut this summer, but that should only be a start to do something else with the knowledge. I wanna build my own cars, do my own stuff .... that should also be visible in your showreel too. cheers:beer: |
