Hi swankymonkey! This little guy's coming along great! I think removing the spheres is probably the right way to go, but at the same time, I think there needs to be something there.... Maybe some little tendrils like on the ears or something.... or maybe after taking them off, shrinking the tentacles to resemble a tuft of hair that would come off an arboreal monkey's head.... So many decisions, so little time!

wow! I really like how this is coming along! I really like the character and I think that the toroids on his ears look fine, but they might look better if they were 'in' a little bit more...

Heres what I think is the final geometry. The UVs are laid out and I've started to mess with some texture schemes. To be honest, I'm currently working in MAYA. Lightwave modeler was giving me some major grief as the mesh became more dense. I was running into some severe face selection problems. Mainly when I was zoomed in and tweaking faces I would zoom back out to take a look and found that sometimes I was getting multiple face selections on other parts of the model. At first I thought I was accidentally doing it but I tried a few more times and realized it wasn't me. I posted this problem over at CGtalk and several people said it was a known bug. Have any of you experienced this problem? It really sucks. Anyhow, I think I'm gonna see this one out in MAYA ... that is if no one minds
I will post some displacment wips VERY soon ... http://tenthchoir.com/May_June_Challenge028.jpg http://tenthchoir.com/May_June_Challenge027.jpg http://tenthchoir.com/May_June_Challenge026.jpg |

OK, so I lied ... HERE is the final geometry ... and at this point I'm going with a very boldly colored and patterned tropical saltwater look.

I'm getting a little sidetracked ... but this is fun ...
Baby Seamonkey http://tenthchoir.com/May_June_Challenge030.jpg In case anyone is wondering, the stalks on the head aren't going to be standing straight up in the final comp. I just did that to rig them more easily if I eventually end up animating them. Last edited by swankymonkey; 20-06-2005 at 04:25 AM. |

Hi swankymonkey! Love your last couple of renders - the baby is fantastic! (kinda looks a bit like me after a big nite out! ) Are you still rendering out of Lightwave or did you end up switchin' to Maya afterall?
