Setting: Advanced Ore Refinery (for the game Ferion)
Hi All,
There was a thread on CG talk that listed off some LW boards out there, and this site came up. So I thought I'd pop in and show you all what I'm working on! I do free-lance for a game called Ferion. It's a web based game not unlike Master of Orion. (www.ferion.com.) I'm doing some artwork for them to beautify the game. In return, I get some portfolio stuff done. Cool, eh? I've been asked to design an Advanced Ore Refinery. So I started with this drawing here: And this is the latest modelling update: ( More info on the Ferion Forums thread here: http://forum.ferion.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2876 ) I'm currently working on a new drawing. I've redesigned part of the structure and am generating a new drawing reflecting those changes. From there, more mesh work will happen. Cheers!

Awesome and very detailed! What's the poly count?

S'happenin dudes? Well, I spent most of the week working on this. I think it's ready to show now. I hope you all like the modifications I made to the base, it should address some of the comments I recieved on it.
There'll probably be more mesh updates by Monday evening.

Thanks all.
The dome is about 180,000 polys. The total mesh will probably hit 2 million polys, provided I can do it without needing a RAM upgrade heh.

Your stuff looks good as always!! My question is whats your process for taking such High poly objects and making them work in a game environment? or is this a Riven/Myst type game. Second question did you ever finish that Phaser Cannon Construction, I lost the thread awhile back upload a render of that sucker that thing was insane looking!!!!

Thank you.
It's not being used in a real-time environment. It's being used as an illustration. Remember how in Master of Orion whenever you got a new research item, an image of the item would appear? That's the point of these images, generally. Is the cannon finished? Eh sorta. The modelling's done. It could use a little extra texturing, but it's more or less renderable. I don't have an environment for it so I haven't done a 'final render' of it. (I'll have to address that before too much longer, though, as my demo reel will start cooking soon.) I intended to build an environment for the cannon to work in, but alas, time was against me. Eventually...

Explain the process for such a model, texturing is great.

Greets all,
I've come farther along on my dome texturing project. I still have one more chunk to do, but I thought you all would like to see the progress. This is darn near complete, but I still have to do the doorway part, it's a seperate map. I've done a rotation animation of it so you can see how the surfaces interact with light. There are two versions. One is at 1024 by 768 (I recommend at least 1.6 ghz for it...) the other is at 640 by 480. The codec is DivX 5.05, you can download it here. Here is the 1024 by 768 version (4 megs): http://www.reflectionsoldiers.com/re..._test_1024.avi And here is the 640 by 480 version (2.5 megs): http://www.reflectionsoldiers.com/re...e_test_640.avi Enjoy!

Hi All,
Well I'm sorry, I thought I'd have something by Saturday. Sadly, I've run into trouble. I'm trying to make an environment for the dome. It's tough. It's really tough. I've put together a texture for the ground, but getting the ground to look 3 dimensional on it has been challenging. Tried starting simple: I like it on some levels, it's not so great in others. Part of it is that I need a higher resolution texture, but that's not what's bugging me so much. It's the relatively easy part to fix. It's that the ground's so... flat. No interesting shadows being cast. So, I looked at the texture, and I thought "What if I build some geometry for that". Well I did that. It looks better, a heck of a lot better. (Please forgive the blurriness of the textures, I haven't finished tweaking them.) I think I've got a direction to go here. Unfortunately, I haven't done a big enough land area for this to be effective yet. (Believe me, the test renders with the dome are comic.) So yeah, I'm still plucking away at it. I'm open to ideas and suggestions. Terrain's a new ... pardon the expression.. frontier for me. Enjoy!
