Sunset with a twist

Hi all.

Took the sunset a little further, just for fun.
Grass with Sasquatch.
Tree with TreeDesigner.

Hope you like it.

Please, put up your critics.

Thanks.

nice mate..grass looks great! shadows nice! nice scene..not to sure about the distant sky look but thats just preference

Kvaalen 07-02-2003 11:38 AM

That is nice! Every one is posting their tree, grass and sunset pics. :p

The clouds could use a little less contrast.
Why is the fence black and white like that?
If you look at the tree and the sky it looks like the sun is on the left side of the frame but the light on the grass seems to be comming from the right.

eRP 07-02-2003 11:45 AM

Thanks.
Kvaalen, in the avi the fence is not as black. I had to put a light just for the fence because of that.
You are quite right about the position of the sun and the light on the grass. That is something I couldn't figure out how to change. I garantee you that I tried all kind of tricks and twists. It never changed.
I don't know what was wrong.

Kvaalen 07-02-2003 11:53 AM

How many lights do you have in the scene? Maybe you forgot to tell sasquatch to use all lights for selfshadows or something like that.

eRP 07-02-2003 12:12 PM

I've got 5 lights.
And nope. with selfshadows for all lights it gets darker.

If I find a break, I will try to figure it out.

Many Thanks all.
vertiis, I'm quite newbie to LW. I still don't have the knowledge to write a tut.
I'm glad you liked it, though.

Thanks

C'mon man. You just have to post the settings used for that grass!

DKM 07-02-2003 07:21 PM

Your grass looks great dude! =)

Kvaalen 07-02-2003 07:40 PM

The leaves look very cool, but in the animation it looks like you applied a displacement to them. The problem is that the braches don't move.

I would suggest using EndoMorphes to make the branches sway.

eRP 08-02-2003 12:50 AM

Actually they move. Not much, but they move.
The leaves move a little more then the branches, and they also have a displacement.
Never the less you are right. The branches don't seem to move.
Your ideia of using endomorphs seems great.
I will give it a try.
Thanks.

vertiis 08-02-2003 09:49 AM

come one eRP... tell us a little more on how you did the animation of grass... ;)

please please please ;)

If I'm not wrong, the grass was done with Sasquatch's wind.

How mauch time did it take to render all that grass in all those frames?

I see now that the branches do move a bit but not enough.

eRP 08-02-2003 02:45 PM

There is no secret about the moving of the grass. with sasquatch is quite easy doing it. It's prepared to do it.
Kvaalen - Not much time.
I've a P4 1,5 Ghz with 256MB and it took about 1,5 min each frame.
For what I can see Sasquatch is quicker then Saslite, I don't know why. It should be the other way around, don't you think?

From what I noticed, Saslite has many limitations other than having less options, and a slow render might be one of them. :p

3dchip 08-02-2003 03:09 PM

I have never tried Sas before, but I do have one question. The different colorations of the grass... it this being "picked up" by a color map applied to you "hill" object or is the color a function of your settings in Sas?

Kvaalen 08-02-2003 03:15 PM

In Saslite you define one color, but in Sasquatch you define 4 colors. You can also use procedurals and image maps.

Memz 08-02-2003 07:27 PM

AHHH so many sunset pics!!! :D :D :D This looks good. Anyway we could get an animation of possibly the tree swaying in the wind and the grass like that also?

Kvaalen 08-02-2003 07:36 PM

There already is an animation on the first post, and it's worth watching too.
