animated textures
Dear all:
Can anyone tell me a way to create 'looped animated textures' in lightwave 7.5? I wish to project an animation sequence (GIF or JPG) on the surface of a planar object, which by way, I plan to multiply hundrends of times using particles. Thank you. |
Load your image sequence in the image editor. On image type choose sequence. Set the frame rate and first frame and last frame. Post behavior set loop. Apply it to your surface.
|
Tell me this can I put a movie (animation) that I made on the object the same way???
|
?????
|
I beleave so dont know for sure though. Best way to find out is to try.
|
Ya true, Unfortunatly I don't own lightwave yet im 16 & jobless so 1500$ is way out of my price range.
I work with it at my high school and it's spring break so I can't try it =( can u try it for me? =) |
You can get Lightwave Demo version to play with for the summer.
Its exactly the same as Lightwave full version but you cant save an object layer with more than 200 points and it renders with a checkerboard watermark. Demo version is free to. |
what what what? where can I find this demo good sir?
I crave to go to school just to get on the only computer that has lightwave! I need to know where this demo is located. Also I was told I qualified for education discount what is that? and does newtek do that? |
Generally, you need to be able to prove that you're in fulltime education to get the student version of Lightwave. You'll need to speak to your local reseller to obtain details of how to prove you qualify for the educational license version.
As for the free discovery version, then you will probably need to contact Newtek. They used to have a page on their website where you could go to download the software, but that appears to have disappeared/moved. |
is that educational one the whole lightwave or are there tools and certain ristrictions?

Yup the only restrictions are that you can save 200 points in a layer and it watermarks your renders. Im gonna search some and see if I can find a link to the demo for ya.
|
Ok after a litle searching I found a couple solutions.
You can Download the Lightwave 7.5c update and install it. It should install Lightwave and run in demo mode. ---> ftp://ftp.newtek.com/pub/Patches/Lig...Windows/lw75c/ You may have to download and install sentinal drivers for this method to work. ---> http://www.rainbow.com/downloads/sys...-32bitInst.zip You can also contact Newtek and ask for a Lightwave Discovery CD which is the demo. I would try method one first. http://newtek.com/support/cs/index.html For restrictions I guess you can also not save scenes, its 400 points in a layer or object that you can save, and watermark. Not bad really though you can still learn and practice much with it. |
Educational one is Complete and full version with no restrictions but.... you cannot sell any work you do with it otherwise you can be prosecuted. When I was going to school I bought an educational version for 395$ usd. As a super bonus when you own an educational version you can upgrade to a full licenced version for the price of a regular upgrade. So 395$ for educational version + 395$ or 495$ for an upgrade and bam you get a full licenced version.
Ooh check this out just did a little searching. http://www.sharbor.com/products/NTKN0300050.html http://www.sharbor.com/products/NTKI0300030.html Thats a full licenced version of Lightwave for 768$ Nearly 50% off :D Also you can just buy the student version and use it till your ready to buy the full version then toss in 399 bones and your set. |
Johnny you have become my god. My birthdays may 7th and that's all I want I shall save for it. Im building u a shrine thank you thank you thank you. (tears running down poor childs cheeks)
|
Thank you again johnny I got the DEMO WORKING!!!!! im so excited im gonna go dance on the freeway now be back later =)
|
Im so glad I could help :D You will enjoy Lightwave a lot.
For the academic version you just need a letter from your teacher/school saying your learning Lightwave. Then contact Safe Harbor and see if you need to mail it in they probbly would accept a fax also. |
Be sure its a freeway you build in Lightwave :D
Ooh I dont know if you read or not when you buy the LW 7.5c academic version you get a free upgrade to LW 8.0 acaemic. Before I got the academic version I was thinking it wouldent be the full program, but sure enough its the full LW program with all the bells and whistles. |
Well todays my B-day and im going to get lightwave Eductation version in two weeks. does my teacher or school have to be liscened or somthing or does it just have to have a copy lightwave to teach?
( we have VT3 so it comes with it ) |
Just get an official leaderhead from your teacher saying your learning Lightwave at your school and your set.
|
Awsome, thanks ill do that ( hopefully ill have lightwave in a month ...or more....) =)
|
Hey, I tried loading my GIF file into the Image Editor and it won't load it. I also tried loading several JPEG's into the Image editor and set it to loop through all of those pictures and I clicked on Image Type and Sequence was disabled and I couldn't select it? Is there anyway you can load a GIF file into LW? Thanks alot.
Clay, |
Nope, I don't think there is. Lightwave never seemed to like GIFs (probably because they'd have to pay a stupidly high license fee to Unisys to actually implement a loader for them).
You should be able to load in your sequence images though (as JPEGs - although these wouldn't necessarily be my choice of image to load for a sequence - TIFFs or TGAs would be a better choice). You need to ensure that your images have filenames in the following format: <basename>nnnn.<ext> where nnnn is the frame number (this can be any number of digits, as long as its consistent) - just select the first frame, and then check the box in the image editor... |
and on the animtion note, i have loaded in a divxavi file before and mapped it onto a tv screen just load in the animation as if it is an image, and everything should work fine
