Members Choice Tutorial!!!!

This is a Members Choice Tutorial. Its simple, Vote on the one you want made into a tutorial. The most voted one gets made into a tutorial, Have fun.

If you want your vote to remain anonymous dont tell, but if you want to perhaps sway people then feel free to let us know what you voted on and why. Take some time to decide, and cast your lot. The poll will run 14 days.

Azazel 16-05-2003 09:29 AM

this is a cool idea!
Hope to see more of these polls for future tuts :)

btw... I voted for the fishbowl, cause I donīt like space stuff that much and I think there are lots of interesting aspects (especially HDRI) in this part...

Great idea guys... this way the members get more involved in what tutorials get released. I for one vote for the fishbowl one mainly because Im kinda in a phase in my life where Im very much in to photoreal stuff and it feels like this one could be really good.

keef 16-05-2003 02:32 PM

How about we light a fire and cook/eat the fish - put out the fire with the water in the bowl - divide out the treasure from the chest.

Then vote for the pretty flower - that's what I voted for.

(Have a great weekend people)!!!!!

icezAz 16-05-2003 02:37 PM

I would like to see a fishbowl, but im still a beginner, but maybe later i'll use it!

Johnny9ball 16-05-2003 05:53 PM

I voted for the space scene. A space scene would make cool Wallpaper. Philip you should cast your vote to ;)

Erwin 16-05-2003 06:00 PM

Definitely the Fish Bowl for me.

Btw, I like all of the choices. All would be great tutorials.

Tian 16-05-2003 10:36 PM

I love the idea of a poll to decide future tutorials, I cast my vote, thank you.

Tank 17-05-2003 10:10 AM

I went for the fishbowl because it sounds like you would have the most diversity in it. Modelling and texturing and lighting sound like they will all need to be well covered.
Looks like the fishbowl is in front as well!

Mark 17-05-2003 02:20 PM

Well, I've cast my lot in with the fish people.

Not only because I think it'll make a cool tute, but also because I'm a sheep and flollow the flock :D

Same here. Also, since I do a lot of space stuff, I've already seen enough starscape/asteroid tutes to start the learning process (Yay, Betterspace!). Fish, on the other hand, are trickier to find. To make a long story short, I voted for the fish one...

Johnny9ball 17-05-2003 05:26 PM

Looks like the Fish is far in the lead. Mabye there is a group of Orchid people waiting to attack ;)

Catflavor 17-05-2003 06:21 PM

well....i kinda want to vote for a big burning asteroid belting over the sea, but we've already got one churning sea tut here...still it would be interesting to see what kinda burning rock phil would give us.

but i also rather like the idea of little fishies which dart about suddenly...

....i think I am gonna have to go with the big burning ball of rock, even if its simply to satiate my pyromaniac desires....whoah Neddy! big words for a weekend...best go buy some sweeties and find something useful to do with my saturday night

see you all in the fishtank :)

Johnny9ball 17-05-2003 06:28 PM

I dont beleave the goldfish will be animated just modeled and surfaced/rendered. Although your more than welcome to animate it if you want to :)

quaoar 18-05-2003 06:59 PM

Well, looks like I'm in the minority here... Although the fish bowl provides diversity in the over all tutorial I think the modeling could be fairly straight forward and HDRI lighting is pretty cool but there are tutes out there already for them So.... I've voted on the slender beauty of the orchid.....;)

quaoar 18-05-2003 07:01 PM

PS... the Orchid could also be lit by HDRI's..... but you learn to model a more organic and detailed model:D.....refractions could also be used with water droplets on the delicate petals.....

Nail 19-05-2003 01:27 AM

I'm voting for setting up a space scene / planet, moon and stars and nebula too. I need that for my Defiant Animation. I know very little on how to create the perfect star field and planets with the atmospheric clouds and so forth.
I would like to see that tutorial very much. Common Phil help me out here! I need your support! :) :)

Erwin 09-06-2003 06:23 PM

I changed my mind, I want the modelling and texturing an Orchid. ;)

3dchip 09-06-2003 08:15 PM

How about this....

How about a tutorial on setting up a space scene where an asteriod w/smoke trail falls out of space, over a sea into a fishbowl with goldfish, plants, treasure chest, rendered with HDRI reflections and refractions that shatters cutting the head off an orchid.

Anyone? Bueller.....Bueller...... ;)

philip 09-06-2003 09:01 PM

no no, an orchid, hit by an asteroid from Krypton, develops super-strengths and throws the fishbowl into deep space... the goldfish however, manages to get out of his bowl in time, and since he's been touched by the orchid, he turns all green and bad when he gets angry from now on. So he starts chasing the cat, which in turn, is seeking asylum in a mousehole...

philip 09-06-2003 09:06 PM

meanwhile the martians find a strange transparent artifact on the surface of their planet. They study it for a week and finally, by accident one of them ends up with teh fishbowl over his head. They realize that this is the last thing they needed to get their space program going. (all previous experiments ended with the testpilot's head exploding)

so they start manufacturing fishbowls and are on their way to invade our planet.

3dchip 09-06-2003 09:06 PM

that will never work... it's been done so many times before.... can't you come up with anything ORIGINAL?!?!?!!?

philip 09-06-2003 09:10 PM

no. I'm a victim of the 80s...

poor me

Erwin 09-06-2003 11:57 PM

phil and chip, u 2 have too much time...... :D :D :D :D

DKM 10-06-2003 11:57 AM

For the tut...

Personally, I think that the bowlfish tut is not the best for us. I mean, in fact it's just simple objects, and a HDRI render that we could find on any tutorials sites...

I think tutorials B & C might be interesting due to the particles effects, and other things like that... I think there is more work on lights in these tuts than the bowlfish tut...

But, it's just a suggestion, nothing more... Cya =)

Johnny9ball 03-07-2003 12:10 AM

I just wanted to say Thank you to everyone who participated in this tutorial vote. It was really fun to see what people liked or thought of the different tutorials. I for one am very excited to see this tutorial later as all of Philips tutorials are exciting and fun and educational. DKM you never know what you will learn in a tutorial I am sure there are many good lessons in this one and mabye a few surprizes. I know whenever I start a new tutorial I know its better to not try and guess how its gonna go cause I always learn more than I expected to.

I think it was very successful in shareing with the members some of the decision makeing fun.

/me turns the ass kissing on........I would also like to thank Philip for agreeing to try this little experiment of mine. Thank you Philip for all your hard work here you benefit many people with your knowledge........./me turns the ass kissing off.
