here's another FPrime test:

WOOOW, that really does make me want to start up on the mclaren vids, got to 3 and didn't see the point, but this is just wow!

Johnny9ball 26-03-2004 11:08 PM

Ooh how sweet it is :D

Is Fprime good Philip?

What sort of features does Fprime have?

philip 26-03-2004 11:29 PM

@PolarBear53: hehe, yes, if I remember correctly we were pushing and pulling vertices of splines in part 3... but I can assure you: this tutorial will definitely advance you as far as modeling semi-organic surfaces goes. Heck, I have learned a whole lot just by making this tute :) This car really has lots of tricky details and I'm giving my best to show different useful approaches for these.

@Johnny9ball: I love FPrime. The best features of Fprime are instant feedback, fast rendering and that it's an iterative renderer; it'll even let you continue a render after days (or weeks...). You can let it render for a while, stop it, save the image and some extra rendering data gets stored too, then when you know your machine will be idle for a while, just load the (un-altered) scene and refine the render. As far as features go it would be easier to list what it *doesn't* support (yet). Have a look at www.worley.com for the limitations.

I can only recommend it!

Wow It looks amaing.

FPrime is the dogs doodads. :)

FPrime is a Viper "Extreme" ^^

It doesn't support particles and shaders, does it?

that looks so dam fine philip!

awesome

philip 27-03-2004 09:44 AM

when I saw the first FPrime video I too thought it was VIPER on steroids... but the truth is, it's a renderer! The instant feedback is just the icing on the cake.

All the things it doesn't support yet are meant to be addressed once 8 is shipped. And since in LW shadres are always evaluated last, I try to avoid them anyway... So the shading noise reduction for instance won't affect surfaces with a shader on them.

Steve Worley and Newtek have stated publicly that as soon as 8 is out, they will be working together to allow FPrime to move to the next level. Newtek knows how big this plug-in is for them so they are ready to help boost it any way they can. Steve Worley also told me that he has a lot of control over the noise during radiosity renders and will be improving that along with a better algorithm for image mapping.
