Okay... first day, I've got a concept sketch done. YAY!:D

A little description of this robot:

The "Vector I" was created to venture out into the unexplored areas of planets uninhabited by humans. It has a huge eye in the front to see things that are not visible to the naked eye and even modern-day microscopes! It has two solid legs on either side of its body to provide it with stability on uneven, rocky or any kind of weird surfaces. The robot also has a mini jet-engine on its back for emergency. It has three communication antennas to communicate with home base or other robots in the vicinity. The various "things" sticking out the front are measuring devices for many different parameters such as temperature, humidity and a whole lot more. The bright colors on this robot make it visible from far and they also glow in the dark. The Vector I has also been known to be working with the bomb squad to seek out land mines and detonate dangerous bombs safely.

whew! lots of writing! anyhoo... that's my idea, i noe its not THE most original thing but it does serve a purpose.;)

I'll have something modeled over the weekend!

Cheers

I like the organic-mechanical look. Colors look nice. Keep it up!

Zeeman 14-03-2005 06:20 PM

Thanks, but i really wasn't going for an "organic" look.:ermm: That's how all my things turn out....:disap: I was looking for a really "inorganic" look. that's the whole point of this!

I really like the leg, but i might keep that as a separate project.

I was thinking about changin my idea... i'll see what happens...

colto 14-03-2005 06:28 PM

Metallic textures will take away the organic look. I guess what I meant to say was I like the "sleek curves". lol Good Luck!

ALso too make your nurbs less sharp apply a weight map to them. click the little W in the button right hand corner of your screen. Click SubPatch Weight or whatever it is called. it is the only thing there. Then select whatever polygons you want to make "sharper". Then click the map tab. click weights. Hit N to bring up the numeric requester. set falloff to none. Then just click and drag in the window to reach your desired effect.

Well... I am officially changing my robot from an explorer to a Search and Destroy, Merc. kinda bot.

I was thinking: Big, burly, large chest plate, hydraulics and wires etc visible from underneath. Comparatively small head with 4 blue glowing eyes. Huge arms with large chain gun type thingy's for hands. A little laser gun / targetter on the shoulder and triple jointed (minotaur) type of legs with a wide stance.

As usuall, i'm starting from the leg...

sketchy sketch sketch!

EDIT: Also big thank u to Colto for the tip on how to make stuff "sharper" Cheers!

lol. Its true Colto! A lot of people are going for that kind of feet on their robots (including me ;)) I'm guessing it looks more "robotic".

Anyhoo, I was getting the leg part of the model done since these past two days. I've tried to make it as INORGANIC as I possible could :) I haven't rigged it or anything but i may do that by the end of the day. I think it still lacks some detail which i'll tackle later somehow...

I've now gotta make an arm for this guy. I'll post a concept sooner or later!
