Modeling a Remote Control

1 Attachment(s)
Ok need some thoughts on the best approach at modeling a remote control..recently it was brought to my attention that I would be modeling several remote controls...full detail (philip) and was wondering the best method to approach this...splines/sub'd's or just lots of geometry and stencil and bevel all the buttons, lcd screen etc. there will be several remotes vary from 30-56 buttons lcd screens etc.

the screen shot isnt a real remote i just wanted to test the stencil and no subd's, I'm doing a quick test of splines as well..

so Kenny, what did you end up doing?

hmm! maybe layout tour curves then use other curves to intersect and cut away areas that you need (project curve on surface -is that in lightwave??) If not then something similar

well, it really depends on the model... but as a guide I would say:

if the buttons go onto relatively flat surfaces, use SubDs

else model the basic shape using SubDs, freeze them and work with booleans and Smoothshift

for the basic shape I'd use boxmodeling I guess.

sounds good, thanks I'll probably try a little of both...there seems like to many buttons to do all the beveling etc using subd's, I'll keep you guys posted.
