Default g key not centering

When I press the g key and click the mouse to center on the pointer, the screen jumps sideways a few grid squares, instead of centering on cursor.

I am using a Geforce4 Ti 4600 dispaly card. I downloaded the lated driver and installed it.

Is it something I can fix,or does it require a new display card?

disregard question: I was hitting g key, and 'clicking' on the point I wanted to center. What I needed to do was hold pointer 'over' the point I wanted to center and hit g key.
