Default .LWO to .3DS

i am helping my friend in making a game and im making all the objects in lightwave ...but he uses 3d Studio Max....although i also have 3ds max i have never found out how to use it, anyway my problem is that when i try to export my model into a .3ds format it gives me an error,

if anybody knows how to get rid of that then i would be very pleased

thanx, Sergei

I beleave you have to tripple all polygons before you can export to 3DS.
