Default diffuse color seems grayish

ok, working on a soccer ball that i had up in the modeling section a day or two ago, model is finished and i'm working on texture. however, something with the lighting i have now seems a bit weird:

even tho my objects color is set to pure white and my diffuse value is pretty high (85% right now) my object appears sort of grayish when i render. if you look at the render by itself it doesn't seem that gray, but i have a white ball here in my apartment that i'm using for reference and the render looks very grayish in comparison (it even appears a bit gray in the surface editor). i'm using two area lights to light the scene as you can see here:

the key on the left is at 50% and the fill on the right is at 25%. any advice/info as to how to fix the material color and get it rendering more like i want it to? thanks.

chris
