Cool Setting Up Skeletal Bones for Humans

Hi:
I have a problem with I go to use bones to animate a human character. In Insert the bones, name them, parent them (when needed), but I am totally lost after that.

Inverse kinematics is frustrating for me. Is there a tutorial or video that is really down to earth and understandable. I really want to get over this hurdle? I have downloaded the character rigging video in the hopes that I can grasp this procedure.

Sometimes, after I boned the character, the bones move and the mesh does not. I have both LW 5.6 and 7.0. I am more comfortable using 5.6 because it already has the keyboard shortcuts created and (to me) it's more basic. I have models of humans, insects and animals that I would like to animate.

Can someone give me some advice. Thank you. I appreciate it.

Dawn, you really want to get your hands on a copy of Timothy Albee's book Lightwave Character Animation. It's an absolute godsend for anyone wanting to perform this sort of task.
