Well, here we go again!!!

Hi All! I'm starting at the beginning of the comp this time, so I'll have the full allocated time frame to work in [it sure beats beginning half way through like I usually do!].

I haven't done all that much character animation, and certainly not something that would be used specifically for games, so hopefully I can learn a bit from this comp.

As far as subject matter goes, I do have a character that I built recently [but have not yet rigged or animated] that I've been looking for something to use in. As you can see from the pic, he's kinda based on a Central American native theme, I'll probably have him smoking a cocoa cigar or something like that!

Cheers! priimate.

Cheers guys!

I've been thinking about this alot today, and i'm getting a little torn between using my native model or one of my other characters. Seeing as i'm getting started early [for me!] on this comp, I might do a couple of characters and choose the one that works best.

I have a little purple alien who has become a bit of a trademark for me amongst the students and teachers where I work. I developed him a few years back for my major project that comprised the last part of a course I was doing. He tends to get shot, flattened, imploded, exploded, electrocuted, drowned and generally punished on a regular basis.

The second character is a beer-swilling super hero, based on a guy I used to work with [the resemblance is uncanny!].

I'll probably go with the alien and the native, as the geometry is less complex. I'm also considering building lower-res versions for this comp - it fits the theme better. Decisions, decisions!!!

Cheers! priimate.

Here's the other one:

PS: the alien normally gets around in the nude [he's a bit of a naturalist!]

Hey! Thanks Mike!

I'm in the process of deciding what to do as far as cycles are concerned. For the alien I might try a sneaky tiptoe cycle and I'd like to do a run for the native.

I would also like to do some "waiting" action loops for them too. With the alien I might have him order a pizza while he waits or have him pull out a little scanner or something. I'll get the native to smoke some cocoa as I mentioned in my first post.

I'll probably sketch these cycles up as a reference.

Cheers! priimate.

Cheers R-6!

I'm currently sketching out some keyframes, so I should have a proper update soon [hopefully!]

Hey mate,

Love the characters, especially The Slab. Wouldn't mind being shot by that cannon - unless its VB in there of course (bluech!)

Hey! Cheers Kris!

Stangely enough, when I showed a render to my mate that the character's based on, the first thing he said was "You better change them beer labels to VB ones..."! How wierd is that?!? I'm not a fan of beer really - I'm more a spirits and cider guy [I'm from Yorkshire originally] so naturally I'm real popular with all the VB drinking blokes down here!

Here's an update: I've slapped together a little stunt double for my alien, so that my system will be a little happier while I animate. As a test for the double, I loaded it onto a walk cycle I did some time ago, to makes sure it would work ok. I can now switch the two models as I like. I'm gonna do a low-res version of the character which I will swap onto the rig later on aswell.

Cheers! priimate.

Howdy All!

Hey Kris! Yeah I thought that too when I finished that animation!

Here's the next update. I've converted the alien model from Sub-Patches back to polygons and tweaked the mesh to fix a few polygons that were twisted in-side-out. I'm really happy with the way he's turned out, as I was forseeing having to do an almost total re-build for him. Because he is basically the same mesh, his existing rig will work fine too!:attn:

Now off to do a bit of animating!

Cheers! priimate.
