hey guys, I've been modelling in 3ds max for sometime now. At school, unfortunatly, they have lightwave. I have a couple of struggles.
I need to know how to mirror an object and make it a slave of the original object (so that when I edited the original, the same thing happens to the slave), and further more, how to connect their vertices together. The help would be greatly apreciated, thanks guys. MatPec |

unfortunately you can't instance in modeler, but you can mirror the object, make sure you mirror across the X axis, and turn symmetry on.
To merge vertices either hit "m" or weld them manually; select vertices, hit "ctrl-w" (the last selected vertex will determine the location of the welded one). Switching from max to LW is pretty hard at the beginning, but once you have the basic tools and workflow down, you will discover LW to be very fast... hang in there.

hmm, seems complicated enough :-P
Well then, this is for all the experts... For someone who is so used to instancing that they are now banging their head senseless against a wall, what would you say is the best strategy as to modeling things that need simetry. Should I keep mirroring and deleting till I like what I see, or is there any way around it? |

like I said, mirror your model and turn on symmetry, that's an actual feature, look for the symmetry button at the bottom of your modeler window.
