Default Lathe

Im doing a nut/bolt tutorial and for the nut i want to make those lines where the bolt will be.

From the tutorial it sez that i have to make a triangle and then lathe it, i used the same attributes that were shown (and i also played around with them) but the lathe wasnt working for some reason,

This is what i got and its just a bunch of points.....but i want the polygons

When you lathe do you have the polygons selected, and are you in polygon mode?
