Default Cliffs

Ok no bull stright to the point. I have a round island and i want to add cliffs to it but sadly i have no idea where to start, i dont want to have to make it manually (pulling the mesh around untill it's right) because that will simply take forever i was hopeing someone knows a easier way for me.

Thanks in advance

How did you make the island? Maybe you should post a wire?

Aside from that I'd have to point you here although it may not apply in your case...

Well you could start off with a Displacer plug-in in Layout. Umm you should make a ground plane with many polygons (better outcomes) and subpatch it before you go into Layout. Then in layout go to Properties>Deform>Add Displacement>Normal Displacement. And then experiment with the outcomes. And then add some procedural textures to give it some snow and mud. The snow and mud is talked about in a tutorial over at Newtek under the Texture tab in the Tutorials.
[Edit] I found the tutorial...

The Normal Displacement is also used by Philip in the Ocean Tute.

Cheers!

Anyway heres a pic of what i have at the mo, the background layer is the island and i've put a ring on the active layer showing where the cliffs will go.
I'll also post the image i'm working from so you can see what i'm actually trying to do.

Are you working with tris as opposed to quads? I ask because you'd be able to take advantage of more plugins if the mesh was constructed of quads.

Forget what you have so far and start with a flat disc. Bevel the disc in, down, in, and up several times.

Go into subpatch mode and use the bandsaw to sharpen up the edges.

Turn the subdivision level down to about 2 or 3. Freeze the subpatch then jitter the points. Go back into subpatch mode and this should give you a good base to start with.

You should be able to smooth shift out vertical rows of polys at the cliffs to add detail.

The rest is clear enough.
