Default Studebaker WIP

Hey there SIMPLY LIGHTWAVERS

This is my first vehicle model in 3D and my first model using Lightwave. I've recently made the switch from Maya which I've been using for about a year and have to say that when I got over the initial hotkey shock I was very pleased with the interface. Lightwave feels much friendlier to use.

The car is a 1954 Studebaker Commander. I started by building a spline cage and then moved on to polys and subpatch.

Thanks lwwiz

Hey, I checked out your website and noticed you use MODO. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of graphics card are you running and how much RAM? I was very curious about MODO a few months back but heard a few to many stories about system crashes. Whats your take on it?

Default Hi

Hi, I run it on two pcs. I run it on a p4 20 ghz 512 ddr ram and a 64 ddr ram ati vid card and have no probs unless i get over 5 k polys. and then on my 2.66ghz p4 1.75 gigs of ram and a 256 ddr vid card i havent had a crashed with any scene even when rotating around with my 200 + k scene.

I personally don't like oldtimers, but your model is looking good so far. especially for your first car model.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Little update ...

LOTS of stuff still to go

Lightwaves modeler is really winning me over and vehicle modeling is fun stuff, man!

I'm debating if I should model an interior. I'm leaning towards doing just enough ... as in the tops of the front and back seats with a simple dashboard and steering wheel

Good clean model, never did find maya much to my liking but anyway, cool

Just out of interest did you make that last render in photoshop etc or in lightwave itself?

Yeah I used PS and just layered a couple of screenshots and then just used a big soft eraser.

I think theres a liiiittle too much geo on the wheels but thats how you learn :o

Basic parts are done ... next will be all the little things

A test render to see how smooth the geometry is looking

Probably getting ahead of myself ... still many details and tweaks
