Default Allosaurus

Ok, i begin a new project; an allosaurus (Dino). I've worked only 2 hours. I have many references but not a good for details (head, legs). I'm going to do a prehistoric environment later.

Yep, so far so good - I haven't the faintest idea what one of these is supposed to look like, but it certainly looks very dinosaury right now. Going well! :attn:

Thank's for comments
I have just begun the texturing. I used procedural shader Crumple for scales. I am going to add of the detail, as scores and full of things.

Hi!
First of all nice job so far, it looks cool. :attn:
Now, if you get mad if anyone crits you then you should just not read the rest and live your life. But if you would like to better yourself and the model which, again is looking very good as it is, then read on.
And sorry for the length of the post but I wanted to cover all my ideas in one go so I wouldn't have to post two or three more, which would increase my post count and all, but I don't care about that so...

Here goes nothing

You could make the tail longer.
Remember, it had to balance the rest of the body, the central point being the legs so make it as long if not longer than the body.

All of the fingers have knuckles so, if you don't have the geometry, and I don't know because you didn't post a wire, just use the knife tool three times where the knuckles should be, for each one do three cuts, then select the points of the middle one and using the strch tool, increase the size a bit. Do this for all of the fingers. Just DON'T cut at the begining of the fingers cause those knuckles are 'hidden'. I'll atach another image showing the hand and foot skeleton so you can see for yourself.

Also, the forth finger on the legs could be lowered a bit. The claws could get bigger and more curved with a small trench going through the middle of each side, following the curvature.

I liked the neck from the previous renders, more arched, it gave it more character.

I also like the horn like protuberances above the eyes and the plates at the back of the head makes it stand out, separating it from the neck.

Also, Allosaurus (Fragillis) had a very tough life (ironic, isn't it? ), having to hunt large prey mostly alone. The reproduction was again very violent, most of the times the male or female would get hurt in the act or in fights with rivals or even females who didn't want him, yet. He didn't have it easy... Try to make him look a bit more bashed...Maybe rotate the body a bit so the torso and neck/head are on the same level as the tail.
You could also lower the neck a bit more and rotate the head so it's leveled, as if he was looking at something smaller, right in front of him. The curvature of the neck from the previous renders would look very good in this pose.

The hands could use a little work. A bit longer wouldn't hurt. And also Make them less smooth, and make the finger joints stand out a bit. Also the claws could be bigger and curved. It's a predator, his claws have to hold the victim, not just puncture it. Look at a cat's claws. If they get into your skin you're done for. Anyway...
Also, if you want a more agressive pose then the orientation of the fingers is a bit off, a predator usually doesn't want to do push-ups, but to applaud...er...to catch prey between his hands so rotate them a bit so they more or less face eachother (more or less) (I like to say "more or less"). Also, believe it or not, he had wrists and knuckles that stand out like your own knuckles, so you could fragment the fingers and get rid of that curve. Look at you own finger and bend them in a menacing claw like pose. ( "Claw like, ha! He's crazy" "That's for sure! That's for sure!")
Here are some pictures of an Allosaurus or two. The first one shows the skeleton. Look at the relative length of the body parts to each other. And the second to see a color scheme.

Also, make more teeth on the jaw, about 42 or a bit more. The size is good, just make more, so it doesn't get anything larger that a mouse stuck between teeth. The way they are now an entire hand (human, of course)could be stuck there with no chance of ever reaching the stomach and feeding the animal which would have to hunt another one down
Try some of these changes and see if it looks better.

Here's a link to a close-up of a skull so you could see for yourself.

Thank you very much NoStr0m0 and sorry not to have answered earlier I tried to translate to best your text. I made a break with my allosaurus, me begin again quite slowly. I modified few things, I really have troubles to do what i want. It is very difficult to make a creature which does not exist any more....:headbang:

No problem.
Sorry for the length of the post

Anyway best of luck with you dino, hope it helps and if you get stuck don't be afraid to ask for help.

As for the extinct part... think about it. If there aren't alive anymore, let your imagination go wild. It's not like an Allosaurus will come knocking on your door cause you made something wrong.

Cheers

LUCKY HIM !!!!!!!! :lmao:
( Just in case, I will do the fishy tutorial before I try anything bigger LOL )

I love the model so far though....
I wouldn't know about the things Nostromo said, cause I really dunno anything about that...
One thing I would do is to add variations in skintone.
Ligher and darker areas, some slight color variations.
That alone will make the model come more alife immediatly.
