Hi All

I’ve been using a copy of the Discovery addition of Lightwave 7.0 for a bit now and cos of its limitations i.e. max 200 points and water mark rending it was time to get a copy.

Lightwave retails around £999.00 (UK) that’s a lot if you are only doing for a hobby. So I thought I would try eBay hoping to find a student selling a copy for some reason or just a
Bargain.

First stop eBay.co.uk no luck so I tried eBay.com here I found a student selling a copy has his interest had changed and no longer needed it. He stated that the item was Lightwave 7.5 Mac/Pc complete with Box, Manual USB Dongle for $368.50 bargain so after a few emails and a couple of bids I brought Lightwave 7.5 Mac /Pc cool.

I Paid via Pay Pal and waited for Lightwave to arrive. Well today it was delivered in a envelope! No box, no manual, no USB dongle. It is clearly a copy of Lightwave 7.5

I have sent a email the seller to express my disappointment. I have also contact eBay and Pay Pal to try to get a refund I am waiting a reply.

Iguess ther are a lot of honnest people out there i have just been unlucky

I have the guys name and address i may fly over (on a plane that is) and open a Can of Whoop Ass on him.

What a Shit Head! Get your money back! That is the reason why
I don't like to buy things from e-bay. My friend was also cheated by them and it took him a long time
to get it resolved. Good Luck!

Before you buy you should read the User comments for that seller.

I did read them and they were positive. but he was the buyer each time not the seller. So it was a bit of gamble wait till he sells somthing and wait for feed back or go for it. So i went for it and got ripped off.

Why not get in touch with Newtek. They have no problems with people who are buying a used version as long as the original user transfers the software licence, so you wont get in trouble but since this guy is selling a pirated version they will throw the book at him. My ebay experience was a bit better.... I got Aftereffects production bundle new in the box for $850.00 canadian dollars.... (actually that saved me about $1000.00 when I bought the lightwave side grade option for 6.5) So not everyone is a dick but your guy is and I say turn him in!!!

here's how you should deal with buying used copies of LW:

- contact the seller and ask for the LW serial No and his complete address

- contact newtek and ask if that copy of LW is really registered to that guy

- contact the seller again (assuming he really owns a legit copy) and make him transfer his license to you

in your current situation I would suggest to give this guy one last chance to get back to you and send the real deal, if he doesn't, contact NewTek.

Do you have his full address? I sure hope so...

BTW: if you are a student, you can get the educational version; it's a lot cheaper than the commercial and is limited to non-commercial work. Other than that it works just like the full.

what an a-hole!! I hope you get you money back mate... then take action against him!

Get newtek onto him and paypal will have to have all of his details!

I have an extra seat of LW5.6 with par dongle. Manuals, but no box. It is eligible for upgrade of course.....

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I just recently got into LW because I just got it on eBay for $700 with some Class on Demand DVDs and a few books. But before I even bid I exchanged a lot of emails with the seller asking about the license, transfer of ownership, and other details to make sure it was legit. I had gotten burned before buying software on eBay, and unfortunately is was M$ so I was S.O.L. (It was Visual Studio 6.0 and just like you it came in an envelope). It takes an experience like this to learn and hopefully you'll be able to recover your money. Good luck!
