Default Heat Shimmer?!

Hello all,

Im currently making a scene that must include fire and water for a universtity assignment. I have decided to go with a viking funeral (longboat burning at night against a moonlit sea). Im pleased with the result so far, but one thing is missing ... the heat shimmer. I know its possible and probably not that hard as ive seen previous students use it, but im yet to come accross a tutorial on the matter. Any help on how to make this effect would be usefull.

btw i have lw 7.5

Cheers

in most scenes where I've seen this kind of thing, it's done in post with after effects or whatnot.
