one of my other hobbies aside from lw is paintball.
I am currently trying to make a model of a paintball gun called an autococker. the trigger frame below is called a hinge trigger. I'll tell you what I did and hopefully you can tell me a better way. i made the basic shape using splines (mainly cause everyone says their good) and it worked fairly well i got the shape i needed. then i extruded it. I have a feeling that i should not have done this but I did. I also added some holes and a trigger (not shown). what i can't figure out is how to close off the two sides. should i use a spline patch?( when i tried it needed hella polys to do it smoothly.) I had more questions but I forgot them. thx for listening |

I wouldnt use splines for something like this...I would consider box modeling this shape-with subd's or drawing the basic shape and stenciling the holes out. then extrude the shape and bevel the edges round with no subd's just smoothing for your micro bevels...I hope that makes sense.....I could show you a quick try if you want.

Splines are fine, you just need to freeze it before you extrude it. If you have a hole in the object, what you want to do is make the object without the hole first, then use boolean to create the hole.
You may also want to select the surface that has alot of points and bevel it just a little. |
